How to Brighten Your Space for Summer

Whether you like to spend your days indoors or outdoors, there is no better time to get together with loved ones than in summer. As you prepare for celebrations under the summer sun, you might be looking for ways to give your living space a quick refresh. And look no further! Follow these 3 2021 home décor trends from the iNSPIRE Q Design Team to give your interior a casual yet cool update.

Use multifunctional pieces as anchors for your living space.

All furniture first and foremost serves a purpose—sofas for sitting, kitchen islands for cooking, you get the picture. And we all know, no matter the size of our living space, the more purposes a piece has, the better it is! Why not make it the star of the show?

Take a look at our kitchen, for example:

A full view of our open concept living space that displays the 2021 home decor trends. In the kitchen, we have a wooden kitchen island surrounded by backless, grey swivel stools. In our living room, we have a beige fabric sofa and loveseat.

Here we have our kitchen island as the centerpiece of the space. We chose this piece as our anchor because of the plethora of functions available: drawers, open shelves, and a sliding leaf extension, so you can use the island for both cooking and eating! We placed backless swivel stools around the kitchen island for convenient seating.

The most multifunctional piece of furniture one can own is a bar cart. Pictured here is a metal and wood bar cart with two shelves and a tray top. It offers enough space to store lemonade, wine glasses, and grilling tools.

Finally, we also have our bar cart here, which stores all our drinks and other barbeque essentials. This living space only has three pieces of furniture, but with their multifunctional and lightweight designs, they can easily be moved and repurposed based on your ever-changing needs. Even the Seattle Times agrees with us!

Choose natural materials for a light and lively touch.

Not only do we want our furniture to serve its purpose, but we also want it to look good too! Summer is the best time to bring the outdoors in, and you can do that by utilizing natural materials!

The extendable kitchen island is the star of our 2021 home decor trends. It is made with espresso-colored reclaimed wood with a concrete top. There are three drawers, three open shelves, and one extending table that can slide in and out of the island.

In our kitchen, reclaimed wood and a concrete top make up the extendable kitchen island. Sturdy wooden bases support supple, faux leather-upholstered seats of the barstools. And if you look at our bar cart, it is crafted with metal and wood for an industrial-inspired aesthetic that matches the nailhead trim of the stools.

In our living room, we have a beige linen-upholstered sofa and loveseat. The tables, like the kitchen island, feature reclaimed wood construction.

Adding contrasting materials adds texture and depth to your living space that is sure to impress all your party guests. And by using natural materials, it really uplifts and refreshes the space, making it all the livelier.

Stick with a soft, neutral color palette.

One 2021 home décor trend that you can’t ever go wrong with is a neutral color palette. In our living space, we chose with beige, brown, and grey tones. Not only do these colors look great in natural sunlight, but they really highlight the natural materials incorporated into them.

This image is a closeup of the backless barstools. The round barstools have brown wooden bases and grey faux leather seats. The seats also feature a nailhead trim for added visual interest to the overall neutral look.

The neutral color palette paired with the natural elements really makes the space feel light and airy. This, in turn, allows us to add splashes of color! The potted plants and greenery scattered throughout the space effortlessly liven it up.

The end table next to the sofa is cylinder-shaped while the end table next to the loveseat is square and has a black metal base. And in the center of the room is a coffee table that perfectly matches the cylinder end table. Potted plants and black and white accessories decorate the living room to make it stylish yet cozy.
